Melt Bar and Grilled closes Columbus location in Short North - cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Melt Bar and Grilled’s restaurant in Columbus’s Short North district is closing after nine years, the company announced Monday.

Melt was located in the city’s Short North district.

“It’s been 9 great years in The Short North,” owner Matt Fish said in a news release. “However, with very difficult staffing challenges, major cost increases, and other new issues to navigate in the post-pandemic world, we have made the difficult decision to permanently close the Melt Short North location.”

The restaurant at 840 N. High St. was Melt’s first expansion outside of Greater Cleveland. It is a vibrant area packed with bars and restaurants and close to the Greater Columbus Convention Center and Ohio State University campus.

All other Melt locations remain open, including one in Easton in Columbus.

Melt, with its generous portions of creatively crafted grilled cheese sandwiches and craft beer selections, has Northeast Ohio eateries in Akron, Avon, Canton, Independence, Lakewood and Mentor as well as a stand at Progressive Field. It also has restaurants in Cedar Point in Sandusky and Dayton.

The enigmatic ebb and flow of restaurant openings and closings tied to the fallout of the coronavirus pandemic’s staffing issues continues. Last week it was announced that Beach Club Bistro in Euclid is shutting its doors this month, and Sung’s House was closing. But also last week Sora announced it is moving from popup to permanent location in the Flats East Bank, and Stir Studio Kitchen is expanding next month to Hudson, its third location.
