EMMITSBURG, Md. (September 28, 2022) – Mount St. Mary's cross country makes the annual pilgrimage to Lehigh's Paul Short Run Friday.
MOUNT OUTLOOK
It's been three weeks since the Mount last ran a course in competition. The majority went to the Siena Invitational on the site of the upcoming Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship. John Wang posted his second consecutive top five finish to lead the men to a seventh place finish. Molly Connelly headlined the women's 11th place performance with a time of 18:57.8. Select runners also competed at Lebanon Valley's Dutchmen Invitational.
TEAMS COMPETING
Being a premier event for cross country for teams on the East Coast and beyond, the Paul Short Run divides into three collegiate races – Gold, Brown and White. Mount St. Mary's got placed in the Brown division with 47 other female squads and 44 other male squads.
From the MAAC, Canisius, Fairfield, Iona (female only), Niagara, Quinnipiac (men only) and Rider are all on schedule to compete in the same event.
LAST TIME AT THE PAUL SHORT RUN
In the 2021 edition, the Mount men finished 14th in the Brown 8k and 34th in the women's Brown 6k. Wang also led all runners in this event, coming in 21st in a field of 266 while earning a time of 25:25.7. Returners Paul Fagnano, John Ruona and Kevin Zaleski all gathered points for the Mount last season, compiling a total of 457. Lesha Kay led the women's squad with a 23:08.9 to finish 111th in a field of 342 runners.
